Im 16 and Ive been producing electronic music for 4 years. Ive developed my own unique style based on my culture & Ive developed high skills. How shall I release my tracks the right way & be a proper music producer? What steps should I take next? Id recommend seeking out and building relationships with the people that run the record labels that release music that you like and is similar in style to your own. Find out what you can about the people involved and get in touch with them letting them know that you are into what theyre doing and make friends with them however you can. After youve gotten a line of communication going ask them if theyd be up for listening to your music and letting you know what they think of it. I wouldnt rush the process too much. You want to make friends with these people because of your shared interest in music rather than seeming like yet another person hustling for a release on their label. Youre aiming to generate an ongoing conversation with them rather than hitting on them like a salesperson trying to close a deal. Take an interest in what theyre doing. Respond to what they release and talk to them about things youre listening to that they might like. Dont just talk about yourself and your own music. If you send music to people and they dont get back to you about it then just let it be for the time being. Send them more music a few months later perhaps but otherwise dont chase them about it. If they like something they hear theyll probably get back to you but its quite possible that theyll just be too busy. The first well-known DJ that I gave my music to didnt respond in any way at the time but when I ran into him about a decade later he said why didnt you send me more music? I loved those tracks and I hammered them in my sets for months. I wish that Id known at the time to just pop him an email and keep up the conversation the next time I saw a new release from him. Its best to keep a positive attitude, keep moving forward and making new music and pushing it out to anyone that shares your enthusiasm for that type of sound. Dont get stuck waiting for any one persons reaction. You might find that after months or years of sending stuff out with apparently no response that youll have created a snowball effect and have a load of interest from good labels all at the same time. Thats happened to people that I know. Do this stuff because youre into it and enjoy it and youll have the self-motivation to keep going expanding your circle of contacts regardless of whether theyre excited about your tracks at that particular moment. Aim to participate and maybe youll achieve success but if you only aim for success and want to shortcut your participation in the music scene and youll mark yourself as someone to avoid. There are too many people seeking a short route to fame and fortune and its no fun hearing from them if youre established in the business already. Keep it fun, social and keep yourself musically productive. Its the best recipe.
